vintage journal du jour

(note to reader: this is from a journal I kept while traveling in Europe for my first time at age 15)
“One thing that has been on my mind a lot lately is theatre. I just realized it’s been over a year since I’ve done a show and for me that is a long time. I’m what you would call a theatre addict and right now I’m experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms.
Well we’re moving out of the port now. The lights shining on the water are beautiful, and I’m just really happy here. The sky is a gorgeous shade of different hues of blue. I’d love to be the person who got to name the colors. One would be called deep midnight blue, another would be called powdered moonlight and still another should be called aura of the heavens. I know these don’t make sense and I know they don’t do justice to the beautiful colors but those are the names I feel fit.
Right now as I look out over the ocean I can see the lights of the coastline as well as the lights of other ships. It is so beautiful here it is almost like a type of heaven on Earth.

I remember the smell of this evening thirty years later while sitting in my tiny room in NYC typing this blog…ah youth…ah technology now I could give these notes to a lighting designer and she could make the scrim be “aura of the heavens”…hmmm…..this re-reading journals is artistically stimulating…
